There are only two types of Needleless Connectors
Negative
A connector that when a luer or syringe is disconnected it causes a pull which creates a reflux of blood into the catheter tip and line, increasing the risk of occlusions in the line.
Positive
A connector that when a luer or syringe is disconnected propels a bolus of fluid through the end of the catheter locking it from possible fluid reflux, decreasing the risk of occlusions in the line.
Neutral
There is no such thing as Neutral Displacement. Click here to learn more.

Reducing the occurrence of catheter occlusions enhances clinical outcomes and allows facilities to significantly decrease costs associated with declotting and replacing lines. Studies show that using a positive displacement access device is on the most effective way to reduce catheter occlusions.
