The First Positive Displacement Needleless Connector with Antimicrobial Technology |
| |
|
| |
The MaxGuard™ Advanced Luer Activated Device is the only Positive Displacement Needleless Connector featuring antimicrobial protection. Powered by Agion® Antimicrobial Technology, the MaxGuard produces a kill rate of over 99.99% on infection causing organisms predominantly responsible for catheter related bloodstream infections. The MaxGuard with Antimicrobial Technology is designed to assist hospitals in meeting their catheter-related bloodstream infection reduction goals. |

The protective power of the MaxGuard is silver, a natural and highly effective antimicrobial agent. Impregnated into each component of the MaxGuard device, silver ions are released over an extended period of time. Depending on the microorganism, antimicrobial silver technology has been shown to initially reduce microbial populations within minutes to hours while maintaining optimal performance for years. The silver ions attack multiple targets in the microbe to prevent it from growing to a destructive population. This tri-modal action fights microbial cell growth in three ways:
- Prevents respiration by inhibiting transport functions in the cell wall
- Inhibits cell division (reproduction)
- Disrupts cell metabolism
Laboratory testing demonstrates the MaxGuard provides a 4+ log reduction (>99.99%) in the microorganisms most commonly associated with bloodstream infections. |

Using the MaxGuard with Antimicrobial Technology to seal, cap and provide needleless access to your patients’ intravenous catheters and tubing helps prevent contamination and growth of microorganisms at the point of entry into the catheter and subsequently the bloodstream.
MaxGuard not only protects against pathogen contamination, it also provides all of the benefits of the MaxPlus Clear in reducing occlusions and aiding in the prevention of bloodstream infections:
- Patented Tru-Swab access allows complete disinfection and minimizes areas that can harbor bacteria
- Patented dual seal design helps prevent microbial ingress
- Translucent housing allows visualization of entire fluid path, encourages flushing until clear
- One internal component eliminates multiple moving parts that can hide contaminants and prevent complete flushing
- Promotes compliance with best practices and aseptic technique
- Positive displacement helps prevent occlusions
- Saline only flush reduces use of heparin and associated risks
- Pressure rated to 325 psi at a flow rate of 10 ml/second

As of October 1, 2008, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid no longer reimburse for catheter related bloodstream infections. |

Healthcare professionals and facilities are seeking new technologies and practices to assist in their efforts to reduce the occurrence of catheter related bloodstream infections (CRBSI). In addition to the negative impact on the patient, the cost of treating a single CRBSI can reach $56,000 or more according to the CDC and with changes in healthcare reimbursement practices, hospitals are looking for assistance in meeting infection reduction goals

The MaxGuard with Antimicrobial Technology assists hospitals in reaching their goal to reduce catheter related bloodstream infections and prevent hospital acquired conditions which are no longer reimbursed through Medicare/Medicaid.
