Instructions for "Swab Challenge"
1. Squeeze one drop of Glo Germ from Pipette onto the top of the connector, allow droplet to sit for a few seconds.
2. Using alcohol pad, swab the top of the connector as you would normally do in your clinical setting.
3. Use black light to show what remains on the top of the connector.
4. Open new alcohol pad and swab the top again but this time vigorously swab the connector top for 10 seconds.
* Use rest of the Glo Germ to challenge the connectors in use at your facility to see whether or not they can be effectively cleaned.
Maximus's Objective
Many studies suggest that time and friction will enhance the disinfection of the needle less access port. Surveys indicate that the majority of nurses swab for less than 5 seconds, or don't swab at all. Our goal promoting "Swab Challenge" is to show how important it is to practice good swabbing techniques. Attempting to clean Glow Germ off of a connector top, as you will learn from this challenge is not easy. It will show that one must wipe vigorously in order to create the friction necessary to properly clean the connector top. We at Maximus believe that the design of a connector can substantially enhance a clinician's ability to effectively disinfect an access port. Our TruSwab technology in the in the clinical setting and through vigorous lab tests has consistently proven to aid in the prevention of CRBSI and offer superior barrier against microbial ingress.
Note: Shake Glo Germ vial before use. In addition, Glo Germ will stain clothes so please be careful when using it. |
